On The Streets In Birmingham
More than 100,000 people packed the centre of Birmingham on October 8th to watch a mobile museum cum racing car show of magnificent machinery circumnavigate a closed street circuit. Organised by Martin Hone as a prelude to the Motor Show at the National Exhibition, “On the Streets” was run as a series of “races”, with cars started in grid fashion, though speeds were restricted to 30 m.p.h. by preceding police motorcycles. Bracey ‘s lbec-Hesketh Le Mans car, Bond’s Lola T70 and, just behind, Lovett’s Porsche 910 await the start by the church, above.
