Daimler memories
Sir,
The article in September’s. Motor Sport on Daimlers brought bock many memories of my Daimler PA 7517.
As far as I can remember (and from a badly kept scrapbook) as being bought in Bolney from probably Jack Sears, It was rebuilt mechanically and bodily, including new wings which were steam bent. My book says 14 coats of paint plus clear varnish were put on. We did three “Brightons” and one Eastbourne Rally (which included driving there from Kingston, Surrey), as far as my notes go 1958 Brighton was “trouble-free” but “soaked”. 1959 is described as “lurid” with a leaking water tank and 1960 “very good” until before Pyecombe where a valve ceased to seat owing to high velocity run, but was ground in with pavement edge (well mashed) and gear oil.
The number PA 7517 was Surrey but in 1956/7 from a then understanding council office.
