Mosport Murmurs

Denny Hulme had a few harsh words about Reutemann after the race. The Argentinian was unrepentent. He thought that Hulme as a former World Champion and one of the most experienced drivers in Grand Prix racing as well as an expert at Mosport, should be able to find a way round a first year newcomer to the circuit.

The big marquees used to garage the cars were not very secure and several wheels and tyres were stolen by hoodlums although most were recovered. Next year permanent garages will be built.

Just prior to the meeting John Surtees announced that next year he would field Grand Prix cars for Mike Hailwood and the Brazilian Carlos Pace, who has been driving for Frank Williams. This means that Tim Schenken has been sacked or as the Team Surtees press release put it “released from his contractual obligations.”

Don Nichols of the Shadow team, along with driver Jack Oliver, were talent spotting for their new Formula One team, mechanics are being recruited and a second driver was still being sought. But the announcement that Tony Southgate has joined the team, along with Alan Rees, shows that this will be a serious effort.
