Miniatures News, November 1968
Recent releases include some very welcome new models in the high quality Dinky Toys series, these include a B.M.W. 2000 Tilux at 12s. 11d., a De Tomaso-Mangusta rear-engined coupé at 9s. 11d., a Rolls-Royce Phantom V with opening doors, bonnet and boot, priced at 14s. 11d., and their latest very detailed Jensen FF model. All these Meccano Dinky miniatures are sure to be in great demand over Christmas.
Lesney’s latest are commercial vehicle miniatures. They have a little “Matchbox” Mack dump truck, scale 20:1, at the usual modest price of 2s. 3d., reference No. 28, similar replicas of American Ford Pick-up truck (No. 6) and Dodge crane-truck (No. 63), to a scale, respectively, of 68:1 and 86:1, and a King Size “Matchbox” model of a Scammell heavy breakdown truck, with suspension for the ten wheels and a moveable towing boom, to 69:1 scale, which makes it 4 7/8 in. long (No. K-2). The price is 7s. 11d. Incidentally, Lesney have received their second Queen’s Award to Industry; they are currently hoping to improve appreciably on last year’s output of five million models a week, 80% of which were exported and brought in nearly £10 million in foreign currency.—W.
