Sprint silencer

Currently on test on the editorial Mini Minor is the new Sprint silencer manufactured by Rally Equipment Ltd., of Edgware Road.

The silencer is made from heavy-gauge metal (being considerably heavier than the old unit which was removed) and is extremely well finished in gold stove enamel. The special feature of the unit is a balance pipe, which by-passes the silencer body, joining the main pipe at about an inch from each end of the body, and is claimed to eliminate back pressure and speed up gas extraction. It does this by allowing air trapped between the pulses of gas from the manifold to escape without passing through the silencer body.

The car has now covered some 2,000 miles with the Sprint fitted and although no great difference in performance has been noted, the tickover is considerably smoother and fuel consumption in town markedly less.
