Jowett Appointment

Jowett Cars Ltd., Idle, Bradford, Yorkshire, announce the appointment as Chief Engineer of Donald Bastow, M.I. Mech.E., B.Sc. (Eng.), M.S.A.E., M.S.I.A., to take effect from September 1st. Mr. Bastow has since 1950 held the position of Research Manager in the B.S.A. Group of their Engine and Mechanism Laboratory. From 1947-50 he was assistant to Mr. W. O. Bentley during his consultant appointment to Armstrong Siddeley Motors Ltd. For the previous three years he was assistant to the Technical Director, Lagonda Ltd. From 1932 to 1944 Mr. Bastow was working in the Design Department, Rolls-Royce Ltd., on car and tank design, following a period from 1929-32 as a post-graduate pupil at Daimler Ltd. Mr. Bastow was educated at Dulwich College and University College, London. He has read papers on independent suspension, chassis frame design and steering problems to the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Institution of Automobile Engineers.
