A new front was opened in the off-track wrangles facing Formula 1 with news that Susie Wolff, left, had filed a legal complaint against the FIA.

The complaint focuses on the circumstances surrounding an investigation launched by the sport’s governing body into allegations that Wolff and her husband, Toto, who is the team principal of Mercedes-AMG F1 team, had been involved in a breach of confidentiality. Susie had strenuously denied the allegations and suggested at the time  that the probe was motivated by misogyny within the FIA.

The investigation was quickly dropped in December 2023. Wolff, who as boss of the FIA’s all-women racing series F1 Academy,  is one of the most powerful female voices  in motor sport.

“I feel more than ever it is important to stand up, call out improper behaviour and make sure people are held to account,” she said after filing her criminal complaint against the FIA in the French courts.
