Auction record set for ex-Colin McRae Ford Focus WRC car
McRae made a name for himself going flat-out, but he also capitalised on his mechanical sympathy with two wins on the Safari and three in a row in Greece (2000-2002)
The ex-Colin McRae 2001 Ford Focus WRC set a new world record when it sold for £423,300 at Silverstone Auctions’ March collectors’ sale at the RAF Museum in London, becoming the most valuable Focus WRC ever sold. McRae’s matching race suit also went for £16,560
The Focus in question carried McRae and co-driver Nicky Grist to victory on the 2001 Acropolis Rally
