Fernando Alonso has twice lifted the Formula 1 world title. He shared last season’s winning Toyota at Le Mans. Already this year he has accumulated wins in the Daytona 24 Hours and 1000 Miles of Sebring. He has lined up another tilt at the Indy 500 in May and there is speculation that he might target the Bathurst 1000Kms (conveniently, McLaren F1 boss Zak Brown – a staunch Alonso ally – has a stake in a V8 Supercars team), and the Dakar Rally (Toyota is a committed entrant).
In the interim, the 37-year-old will be expanding his FA Racing Team, previously active in karting, FIA Formula 4 and eSports, to participate in the Formula Renault Eurocup, with cars for Spain-based American Brad Benavides, 17, Swiss Patrick Schott, 18, and South African Callan O’Keeffe, 22. Their season begins at Monza, on April 13-14.
