JYS slams rebellion
The British Racing Drivers’ Club’s plan to lease Silverstone to property company St Modwen for 150 years is on hold after a campaign against the move by a group of vocal members.
Outgoing president Sir Jackie Stewart, a supporter of the plans to redevelop the Silverstone site, says he is frustrated by the actions of the ‘rebels’, led by former F3 champion Harry Stiller. “I’m very disappointed that what I would call a militant group have requested an EGM for a vote of no confidence in a board a matter of two to three hours before an AGM,” said Stewart. “No public company would allow that.
“I do not think that this board have done anything less than their best during a period of only 10 months since they were democratically elected. So l don’t understand the behaviour of people of that kind. They are being extremely disruptive, they are not doing anything for the club, and in my opinion are bringing the club into disrepute.”
