Love first, Tingle second!
by Greg Mills ISBN 1919969 52 7 published by Ecurie Zoo.100 Rand
Another cracker by the seemingly unstoppable Mills. Following on from ‘Springbok Series’ (reviewed last month), this latest effort is compiled from the personal scrapbook of national South African F1 star (and five-time World Championship GP starter) Sam Tingle.
Though the text largely consists of extended captions, you get a real feel for what the Manchester-born Rhodesian was like — someone who seemed to embody all the positive aspects of being an amateur but without the negative connotations.
Armed with everything from front-engined specials to a Brabham BT24 he was a fierce competitor at home. But, if the images here are to be believed, an outgoing one. And it’s the evocative pictures that make this unpretentious paperback a must have. More please, Mr Mills. R H
