Unsung heroes

Sir,

Your recent 100 Things That Made F1 Great was delightfully arbitrary, often contrary and thoroughly commendable. But you forgot one vital component. Throughout the history of Formula One, and indeed before, there is one group of people whose contribution is always unforgettable in any era. Stoic, humourous, often freezing cold and occasionally in danger, rarely paid but always enthusiastic, they are surely both number one and number 101 on the list. So, let’s hear it for all the marshals who have kept the show on the road since the beginning.

Nobody can race without them.

I am, yours etc,
Michael Kavanagh, Uckfield, East Sussex
