Heroic theme for festival entries
A pair of Pre-1900 Panhards Rank among the racing vehicles confirmed for the Goodwood Festival of Speed over the weekend of July 12-14.
Honouring drivers like Fernand Charron and Rene de Knyff, who competed in some of the early city-to-city races, they echo the theme: On the Limit — a History of Heroes.
Each vehicle will be linked to a racing hero, such as a Porsche 917 to represent Pedro Rodriguez’s drive in the soaking wet BOAC 1000Kms race at Brands Hatch in 1970.
Renault’s F1 return will be a major element, too, with Rene Amoux and Patrick Tambay demonstrating some early F1 turbo cars, and Jean-Pierre Jaussaud driving the 1978 Le Mans-winning Alpine-Renault A442B.
Other marques featured are Alfa Romeo, Porsche, Delage (notably the 1922 ‘La Torpille) and Ford, whose rallying greats will be represented by the G110, making its first competitive appearance since the 1970s.
