Sir,
Having had occasion to carry out some objective testing of Lucas and Cibié Q.I. light units fitted to Rover 2000s for the benefit of a number of high ranking policemen, I would recommend Mr. Chalmers to fit four Cibié Q.I. light units. On dipped beam, it was assessed that the standard lights were safe up to 30 m.p.h. and the Q.I.s up to 55 m p h. On main beam, object location was possible at 350 yards and 850 yards respectively. On Q.I.s with the flat, continental cut-off it is possible to drive head-on to within bumper-touching distance without discomfort to the drivers. Safe, incidentally, was regarded as the ability to see a pedestrian in dark clothing and to slow for avoidance without emergency braking.
