A SUPERCHARGED 3.3-LITRE SPORTS BUGATTI

Col. Sorel is now in a position to supply supercharged editions of the Type 57 8.3-litre Bugatti. We are assured that the new car is not a G.P.-engined job and. that the blower merely provides a mild boost to improve the acceleration figures, without making much difference to the maximum speed of the car. The blower is a Roots-type, set beside the engine, and positively driven. A number of installations have been fitted to existing Type 57 cars. The price increase for the blown car is ,S105 in the case of the Type 57 and £165 in the case of the Type 57S, bringing the chassis prices to £780 and ;61,070 respectively. Brixton is very reticent in the matter of performance figures, but the acceleration of the new cars should be exceptional, when it is borne in mind that the first Type 57,

tested in 1934 by MOTOR SPORT, with closed bodywork recorded 10 to 50 m.p.h. in 9 secs., and 10 to 70 m.p.h. in 18.5 secs. We believe that the normal Type 57 is capable of around 115 m.p.h. in road trim, but C. W. P. Hampton mentions 125 m.p.h. on the road when the Elekton coupe was demonstrated to him.
