Masters to run Mini races

Four dedicated Masters Festivals and a new series for pre-66 Minis are the highlights of the 2010 programme for Masters Historic Racing. In addition, the package of races will return to the Nürburgring Oldtimer and visit Assen in Holland for the first time.

As it bounces back from the disappointment of the postponed Abu Dhabi Classic, Masters has lined up a high-profile calendar with festivals at Brands Hatch (May 29-31) and Donington Park (June 26/27) as well as an Iberian double-header in October. Back-to-back weekends at Portimao in Portugal and Monteblanco in Spain will wrap up the season.

The Masters Mini Series, for Appendix K cars, will have a domestic flavour. Building on the success of the Mini races at Goodwood (above), a series of eight races will be run, including one at the Silverstone Classic. “Now that we are confident there are enough cars and drivers out there, we are happy to create this Mini series,” said Masters founder and Mini racer Ron Maydon.

On May 1/2, competitors in GT and touring cars will have a chance to race at Assen, while Grand Prix cars up to 1985 and sports cars will be part of the Oldtimer GP at the Nürburgring in August. The Masters season starts at the Superleague Formula meeting at Silverstone over the Easter weekend.
