News in brief, March 2007
* The theme of the 15th Goodwood Festival of Speed (22-24 June 2007) will be ‘Spark of Genius – Breaking Records, Pushing Boundaries’. Goodwood will celebrate those who took risks in their quest for victory, from the first Brooklands and Isle of Man TT races 100 years ago, through Land Speed Record breakers to current F1 and WRC competitors.
* F1 designer Adrian Newey will host question and answer forums as well as a display of his cars at GPlive at Donington Park from May 18-20, 2007. Race fans will be able to quiz one of the most successful designers in modern F1. The event will also feature a display of cars designed by Newey.
* Three-litre F1 cars will be absent from the Grand Prix de Pau Historique in 2007 as the event’s May 26/27 date clashes with the new Masters event at Brands Hatch. Races from the HGPCA will continue to feature at Pau (above) and the Masters series hopes to return to the French circuit in future.
* The first Shekhar Mehta award in British rallying has been awarded to Mini driver Mike Barratt. The judges recognised that he had pushed on in 2006 despite a catalogue of dramas.
