Where is Mike Hawthorn in your all-rounder list? Starting with his world championship, one must include his sportscar victories at Le Mans, Sebring, the Supercortemaggiore (twice) and in the Pescara 12 Hours.

He won his class in the Brighton Speed Trials; won an Alpine Cup with Sunbeam-Talbot; he had single-seater victories in Cooper-Bristol, Connaught, Ferraris 500, Super Squalo and Dino, Thinwall Special and Maserati 250F; he had success in motorcycle trials and scrambles, and was in discussion with Donald Campbell about attempting some speed records at the time of his death.

Surely he merits a place in your Top 20?
