A message for you: Rudi
Sir, I’m surprised by the absence of Rudolf Caracciola from your recent all-rounder list, for he demonstrated his versatility in GP racing, sportscars, record breaking, hill-climbing, trials and rallies. What’s more, he achieved success in all of these disciplines over a 30-year career.
Let us not forget his amazing exploits in the Mercedes SS/SSK/SSKL in grands prix and sportscar races. He broke many international speed records, won the European hill-climb championship (twice) and the Alpine championship. At the age of 51 he finished fourth in the Mille Miglia and won the team prize on the Monte.
In short he was as smooth as a Clark in GP racing, had the sportscar prowess of a Moss, the wet-weather skills of an Ickx and the longevity of an Andretti.
