National ahem!
Sir,
Reading the story concerning John Love’s drive in the 1967 South African GP has prompted me to share some trivia from that grand prix.
As the leaders retired, Pedro Rodriguez found himself the winner. This unexpected turn of events threw the organisers completely.
At the awarding of the laurels, an apologetic announcer explained they did not have a recording of the Mexican national anthem, but added that the situation had been saved: they had a record of South of the Border (Down Mexico Way).
And this was duly played.
