Does your car have Goodwood Past?
Goodwood has been deluged with mail from prospective competitors since it announced the programme for its Motor Circuit Revival Meeting on September 18-20, and Lord March has started the search for cars with Goodwood history by launching the Goodwood Road Racing Co Car Register.
“The levels of enthusiasm are quite extraordinary, such is the affection for the circuit,” says Goodwood’s Richard Sutton. “For instance, I was contacted by Allen Markelson from Florida, who raced a 1961 Chevrolet Corvette in the 1961 TT. He wants to find the car, or a similar one, prepare it and send it over.”
Races for Formula One, F2, 500cc F3 and Formula Junior, World Championship Sports Cars, Production Sports, closed GTs and Saloons will mirror the card for international fixtures run from 1948-1966. A special event for cars from the Nine Hour races of 1953-1957 will be run for the Freddie March Memorial Trophy.
Cars set to be invited include the ex-Dennis Poore Alfa Romeo 8C-35, ex-Tony Gaze 1933 Maserati 8CM and ex-Phi Phi Etancelin 1951 Talbot Lago GP car from Peter Giddings’s stable in California, and David Cooke’s Cooper T43 which Jack Brabham and Roy Salvadori raced in 1957, the latter winning the Woodcote Cup.
“While the most famous cars are known, hundreds of sportscars and single-seaters were campaigned at Goodwood,” says Lord March. “I’m very keen to hear from owners of any with important history here, especially those driven by star drivers.” You can contact Goodwood Motor Circuit on 01243 787766. MP
