The ingenuity of both Stirling Moss and his navigator Denis Jenkinson was behind one of the sport’s all- time great performances. The pair’s detailed 1955 Mille Miglia route notes were mounted in a custom- made aluminium case, to be rolled down and read through a waterproof Perspex screen. The small box mounted in the Mercedes 300 SLR cockpit proved invaluable and helped them to a record time.
