New series has football link
A new single-seater series aiming to link motor sport and association football will kick off at Donington Park later this year, with teams racing in the colours of various football teams. The race at Donington on August 31 begins a six-event Superleague Formula schedule that runs to the end of November, moving on to the Nürburgring, Zolder and Vallelunga before climaxing with two Iberian races at Estoril and Jerez.
The Superleague chassis is a 750bhp single-seater built by Elan in the US, with a 4.2-litre V12 developed by Menard in Britain.
Twelve clubs have so far signed up for Superleague, including Glasgow Rangers. A team from the English Premiership has yet to commit to the series.
