Ayrton Senna almost wins the Monaco GP — but loses out as rain stops play. The Toleman passes Alain Proses McLaren but it proves a lap too late. Henri Pescarolo claims his fourth Le Mans win, sharing aJoest Porsche with Klaus Ludwig (above).
1974
Jody Scheckter scores a lights-to-flag victory in the Swedish GP (above). His Tyrrell team-mate Patrick Depailler, who starts from pole, is second after Ronnie Peterson’s Lotus retires. Henri Pescarolo and Matra complete a hat trick of Le Mans wins.
1954
Ferrari’s Froilán González and Maurice Trintignant beat Jaguar’s new D-type to victory at Le Mans. Juan Manuel Fangio wins the Belgian GP at Spa in a Maserati 250F (above). Stirling Moss claims the Aintree 200 at the venue’s first motor race meeting.
1929
Woolf Bamato and Tim Birkin win Le Mans in a Bentley Speed Six, averaging 73.62mph as the British make scores a 1-2-3-4. Bentley is on top at the end of the month too, when Barnato and Jack Dunfee claim the Brooklands Six Hours (above).
