Porsche spice singing in the rain
The opening group C race of the season produced a fine spectacle at Spa, running into the dark of Saturday evening. Despite awful weather, 25 cars made the trip to give the series an excellent start.
The Skoal Bandit Porsche 956 of Martyn Konig/Philip Brunn took the spoils in the 90-minute race, but only after stem challenges from Nick Randall (Spice SE90) and Nathan Kinch (Jaguar XJR16) were ruined by water in the electrics after heavy rain fell. Instead, it was Chris Randall (Spice SE88C) who took second from the Jaguar XJR12D of John Grant/Nick Rini.
Simon Hadfield hopped into Richard Eyre’s McLaren M8F to win the opening two races in the Orwell Supersports Cup at Jarama, Spain. Hadfield easily outpaced the 2-litre cars, which were topped by the Chevrons of John Grant (B19) and John Burton (B26).
