I am told
I am told that the first night of the Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang musical in London’s West End was an enormous success, but that it all petered out on the second night when the flying car refused to fly. The real Chitty-Bang-Bang did better on its initial appearance at Brooklands, flying on the ground to win three events. I think Count Zborowski, its creator and driver, would be amused to know how popular the Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang song is, which the theater audience sang with gusto and enjoyment. Based on a WWI RFC ditty sung in Flying Corps messes, its connotation is, I suppose, harmless, in this pornographic age.
