Toyota GT-One

Andrew Frankel

Those used to Toyota’s road cars looking like Corrolas may find its latest offering a little startling. Called the GT-One, it comes with 650bhp and a top speed in excess of 230mph.

It is, in face, the latest in a series of so far unsuccessful attempts by marques such as Nissan, Porsche and Mercedes to homologate racing cars for a series designed for road-derived machinery. As you can see, the GT-One’s road going equipment extends to such luxuries as number-plates. With such slavish devotion to the interests of road-users, I expect it’ll be homologated on the spot. But don’t blame the manufacturers, blame the rule-makers. AF
