Astons and Jags take on US muscle

Muscular Aston Martins and Jaguar E-types of the pre-1970 era are taking on Ford Mustangs, Chevrolet Corvettes and Camaros in the Anglo-American Challenge, an attractive and well-supported new racing series from the Aston Martin Owners Club.

The promotion gives US-built machines somewhere to play after the demise of the HARA and ACRA initiatives, and allows owners of non FIA eligible British sportscars to compete, although FIA-spec cars are equally welcome.

Front-runners are likely to include Mike Adams and Ian Montgomery (Jaguar Es), Ralph Avis (Shelby Mustang GT350), Howard Culley (Corvette) and Tim Boles (Camaro), while TVR racer Roger Arveschoug joins the fray in an Aston DBS V8.

Future rounds are: May 26, Brands Hatch; Jun 8, Silverstone; Jun 29, Mallory Park; Jul 27, Snetterton; Aug 25, Castle Combe; Sep 7, Snetterton; Sep 20, Oulton Park; and Oct 12, Donington Park. Regulations from AMOC on 01353 777353.
