East African Safari
Tenacity and a policy of “softly, softly, catchee monkey” paid dividends for Safari winners Joginder Singh and David Doig; whilst faster cars broke themselves on the rough, muddy Kenyan roads, their 1.6-litre Mitsubishi Lancer GSR (above) was always poised to take the lead. The Porsche Carrera of Bjorn Waldegard and Hans Thorszelius (below) seemed a certain winner but rear suspension collapse demanded so much repair time that it fell back to second place.
