For those readers who saw the “goof” in last month’s issue and kindly wrote to us, we say thank you; not so much for pointing it out as for the amusing and tolerant way in which they wrote. Many things in Motor Sport prompt shoals of readers’ letters, but this one must have been a record, and though we were severely castigated the overall tone gave that splendid feeling that the editorial staff and the readers are one big happy family, with our magazine an integral part of this feeling.
Such phrases as “We know D.S.J. writes Motor Sport, but does he ever read it?” and “Your colour ‘comic’ section is great”, or “this was the best mistake ever, it must have been deliberate” and many more, made the “goof of the year award” received with pleasure. The explanation to it all is simply that while our right-hand does know what the left one is doing, we were so busy ensuring this that we didn’t know what “the office whizz-kid”, who spends too much time with our weekly comic paper Motoring News, was doing in the middle.—D.S.J.
