EMPIRE TROPHY

AN imposing list of entries, 51 in all, has been received by the B.R.D.C. for the British Empire Trophy, which takes place on Brooklands Track, on June 23rd. Here the nominations received up to May 24th are as follows :

Magnettes, including Eyston’s and Kaye Don’s team, R. T. Horton’s single-seater, and Manby-Colegrave’s fast car as the most favoured make. Three E.R.A.’s of varying capacity will be running, while the 3-litre class includes the majority of England’s Grand Prix cars and drivers. Straight’s second Maserati will be the 2.5-litre car.

The race consists of 100 laps of the special 3 mile road course, and cars are handicapped according to capacity and whether they are supercharged or not. The handicap speed for a supercharged 750 c.c. is 81,82 m.p.h., while the supercharged 3-litres have to average 90 m.p.h. The small cars start at 2 p.m., and the entire field will have been dispatched by 2.20.

Lord Nuffield has donated £1,000 to the prize fund and the entrant of the winning car will receive the British Empire Trophy and £400.
