BRDC Gold Star
Points as at May 13, 2009.
1. Adam Carroll
A1GP 174pts
After a stellar performance in the last round of the A1GP Championship at Brands Hatch, where the Irishman notched up pole position and two race wins, he has a strong lead. However, there are no more A1GP races until the autumn – all being well. What’s more, it’s unclear what Carroll will do during the summer months and whether he’ll be racing at all.
2. Jenson Button
Formula 1 124pts
If he carries on like he is at the moment, Button will run away with the Gold Star and the Formula 1 World Championship. Providing he wins two more Grands Prix and Carroll doesn’t score again this season, Jenson will progress to the top of the table. The Brawn GP driver has won a Gold Star once before, back in 2004.
3. Johnny Herbert
Speedcar 104pts
4. Rob Huff
WTCC 61pts
5. Andy Priaulx
WTCC 56pts
6. Richard Westbrook Porsche
SC/FIA GT 47pts
A new entry in the charts is Westbrook on the strength of two wins – one in the Porsche Supercup and one in the FIA GT GT2 class at Silverstone. He also finished third in the Supercup round at Bahrain. Westbrook moved from single-seaters to the Porsche Supercup in 2002 and has been with the one-make series ever since.
7. Mark Webber
F1 44pts
Some think he’ll struggle to match Vettel this season, but he has of late been showing just why he’s rated so highly. Third place in Spain means he’s now in the top 10. Incidentally, the last Aussie to win a Gold Star was Alan Jones in 1981.
8=. David Brabham
ALMS 37pts
8=. Dario Franchitti
Grand-Am/IRL 37pts
10. Ryan Briscoe
Grand-Am/IRL 35pts
