The FIA’s view on costs
Max Mosley: “We must get the costs down quickly, before we lose a lot of teams, before the big manufacturers pull out. And that’s really our job to do that. It will be very difficult to improve on a budget cap, because it’s something that everybody can understand, it’s a level playing field, and the cleverest team is going to win. Because everybody has the same amount of money, it’s just who can do the best job with that money. If they could think of something better, obviously we’d have to look at it. But I’m very sceptical.”
Tony Purnell (FIA Consultant): “Our vision is a really healthy, completely sustainable environment for F1. It’s become a cost centre. Let’s make it a really flourishing business. What’s the test for that? People queuing to get in, and when somebody wants out, they can sell their team for a good price.”
