Pic 'N' Mix-Up

Sir,

I was interested to see that you had published an article on the 1957 Nurburgring 1000kms. As a supporter of both Tony Brooks and of Aston Martin, I bought your May issue for a touch of nostalgia. All very enjoyable, but why the picture of Brooks driving a DBR2 at in 1958 on the front cover and at the bottom left of page 292 Maybe you miss Denis Jenkinson’s nitpicking.

If you want the evidence for your error, here it is: the DBR2 though similar externally to the DBR1, was larger and perhaps less elegant. Its wheelarches were higher, so the driver’s head fairing appeared lower. The driver sat very far to the right because the chassis was of backbone type (originally used in a Lagonda, also a David Brown badge). This resulted in a windscreen noticeably wider than that on the DBR1

I AM, YOURS ETC,
