War On Drivers
The Government war on vehicle drivers (and non-drivers, if CL comes off!) heightens. The anti-pollutionists are against us, but what can we do? No incentive to run smaller-engined cars! Courts can be hard on motorists, lenient over criminals; think about the driver who had caused what appears to have been a minor accident and to protect a licence he did not realise was “clean”, very naughtily said his wife had been driving at the time, but later voluntarily confessed. Both received prison sentences. Perversion of Justice is never permissible. But compare this perhaps understandable “fib”, with a job at stake, by an otherwise respectable citizen, with a case well known to me. Premeditated burglary, the theft of a vehicle duly carried out, that vehicle ruined, but the perpetrator was just put on Probation…
Law-breaking apart, there was the indifference of the MoT to traffic delays when it authorised a widespread disruption of M-ways and other roads by starting repairs to them over the past Bank Holiday, to which the daily newspapers protested with leading articles. Is “war on drivers” too strong?
