Rising French star wins Pau classic

After shaking himself up badly in a spectacular accident at Vallelunga a month earlier, French rising star Yannick Dalmas was back on top form for the Pau Formula 3000 street race in south-west France on June 8.

At the wheel of his Oreca March 87B, he notched up a fine victory in this classic event, after pole position starter Pierre-Henri Raphanel crashed his similar March after only 14 of the 72 laps. Roberto Moreno’s Ralt-Honda ran out of fuel while leading with two laps left to run.

The series is once again proving ultracompetitive, with four different drivers having won the first four rounds in three different chassis — Ralt, March and Lola.
