From a reliable source we learn that New Zealand’s Prime Minister, David Lange, drove his personal turbocharged Mitsubishi Sigma in a couple of races at the Pukekohe Circuit, coming within four seconds of the lap record for this fast circuit, on his first racing appearance. He has, it is said, entered for the next round of the Ford Laser Championship.

Confronted by the accompanying photograph of Mrs Thatcher, in a Naylor Sports outside No 10 Downing Street, we wonder whether she might be contemplating some fast motoring while celebrating her recent election victory?
