Firestones on a British circuit
Sir,
The first Firestone racing tyres brought into this country from America have achieved an immediate and outstanding success. They were fitted to the Ford Galaxie which won the production car race at Silverstone on May 11th. They were 8.00/8.20-15 Firestone “Darlington”-type racing tyres imported from the Firestone Racing Division in America.
The car, driven by Jack Sears, was the largest ever to compete in a race of this kind at Silverstone. It established a new lap record [In its class.—Ed] for the track of 94.42 m.p.h. and it won at the highest average speed recorded at Silverstone for that class of car, 91.77 m.p.h.
