The grazing is good at Jody's farm
Former champ shows same drive as behind the wheel in F1
Thanks to the recent Motor Sport subscribers’ competition, I spent a day at Laverstoke Park with the winners (below), eating buffalo burgers with Jody Scheckter (above). Yes, it was a tough day out of the office.
Following a tour of the 1979 Formula 1 World Champion’s organic farm and collection of racing cars, we all sat down to taste the produce. And quite delicious it was too.
One of the most interesting parts for me – alongside the 12 flavours of buffalo milk ice cream – was listening to what the employees made of Jody’s approach to farming. “It’s amazing how much he gets involved in every aspect of the farm,” one told me. “His attention to detail is astonishing and he wants to know about absolutely everything that’s going on. You can tell he was an F1 driver!”
Scheckter may have walked away from F1 at the end of the 1980 season, but it’s clear that the approach he had then has stayed with him ever since.
