‘Back then… and back now’: an appropriate title considering Formula 5000’s huge success in the late ’60s and early ’70s, the sad demise of the 5-litre cars, and their phoenix-like revival in recent years.

Following an introduction by Brian Redman, Lawson charts the story from the formula’s arrival in the UK in 1969, the European adventures and the races further afield. Results tables are included after each year, while a good 30 pages are dedicated to the return of F5000 this century.

It’s certainly not a light introduction, but it is a must-have for everyone who was, or indeed is, involved with these great cars. EF
