Sports-proto revival
The Masters Racing Series is set to grow to as many as 12 race series in 2008, with a number of new categories being introduced. Most significant is for sports-prototypes of the 1970s, to be known as ‘Masters Proto70s’. It will be for 2-litre and 3-litre cars raced between 1971 and 1977, and will feature either two half-hour races or one 50-minute race at five events across Europe.
“We’re aware of cars being race-prepared for the first time in many years,” said Christopher Tate of the Masters organisation.
Masters will also cater for pre-wing GP cars and 1970s Group 2 Touring Cars as well as creating a new under-2-litre Gentleman Drivers series. Masters will also take over the running of the XK Challenge for Jaguar XK120s, offering a class within the Cloth Cap series.
