Bo is select as FIA series lose appeal
FIA Historic Touring Car and Historic GT Championships
It wasn’t a great season for the FIA series for historic GT and Touring Cars. A programme that ranged from Anderstorp in the north to Misano in the south deterred all but the most determined travellers and support for the tin-top series in particular dwindled to low levels.
The GT field was stronger, but a 28-car grid at Hockenheim contrasted with an eight-car turnout in Sweden. The clear champion was Swede Bo Warmenius after another cracking campaign in his Lotus Elan. He finished clear of the Chevrolet Corvettes of Hans-Jürg Malsbenden and Wolfgang Schachinger, while Peter Dunn (Marcos GT) topped the series’ British contingent.
Just 14 Touring Cars scored points as an array of alternative races hurt the FIA series badly. That’s not to detract from Austrian Dieter-Karl Anton, who had a fine season in his Alfa Romeo GTA to blitz the title.
