Killarney Historic Rally
Press-on Perez adds tarmac win to title
Steve Perez laid his tarmac ghost to rest on the Killarney Historic Rally when he guided his Porsche 911 to victory in the historic section of the event
The current British historic champion, partnered by Peter Scott, scored his first tarmac victory after an action-packed day in the lanes around Killarney.
The big threat to Perez was always going to be his close friend Dessie Nutt, but a clutch problem early in the event forced Nutt and co-driver Liz Jordan In run the day without first gear in their 911. Nutt, who has won the rally five times before, was forced to settle for second after the nine stages. Adrian Kermode completed a clean sweep for Porsche with third place.
Nick Whale/Kieron Patterson narrowly took the post-historic class in their Porsche 911S after John and Christy Farrell’s Escort slowed on the final stage with a misfire, while the classic division went to the Escort RS of John Moynihan and Paul Nagle.
