Production base

Sir,

It was with dismay, though not surprise, that I heard the World Sports Car Championships was not to be held in 1993. For many years now the cars have stagnated design-wise and the basic shapes have really become too similar. My collection of models shows the shape of the original Porsche 917 is the mother of all today’s cars.

May I appeal to Max Mosley and the FIA and particularly to the organisers of the Le Mans 24 Hours please to return to the original idea of racing production sports cars.

Look at the potential field: Jaguar, Ferrari, Bugatti, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Mercedes Benz, BMW, AC Cobra, Honda, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Ford, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Alpine Renault, TVR and many more. What a recipe for really meaningful and fascinating motor racing!
