Champion of Champions!

A decade of the World Rally Championship for drivers was celebrated by a special single-stage event at Montlhery on December 4, contested by all eight champions; Bjorn Waldegard, Walter Rohrl, Ari Vatanen, Hannu Mikkola,Stig Blomqvist,TimoSalonen, Juha Kankkunen and Massimo Biasion. Aggregate times using a Ford Sierra RS Cosworth, an Opel Manta 400 and an AudiSport Quattro S1 decided the two finalists, Salonen and Kankkunen, who then did two laps each in a Peugeot 205 T16 E2 and a Lancia Delta Integrale, with the latter collecting the Henri Toivonen Memorial Trophy. The event was organised by Michele Mouton, who has just written a book, Champions, in which she gives her own personal pen-portrait of each of the title-holders.
