N.B.
Sir,
I am writing you to point out one or two statements you make in your article on Mr. R. O. Harper and the Newton Bennett car in your issue of Motor Sport for November which are not correct.
Firstly you state that I am Mr. Harper’s daughter.
My father was Mr. John Newton, the founder of Newton & Bennett Ltd., and my elder brother was, of course, Noel Newton.
Secondly, Mrs. Harper, charming old lady that she was, never financed my father’s business.
The Newton car which I put into Beaulieu was never used by my brother. It was found by my father in the country here and kept here. Before my brother died in January 1966 he was in touch with Beaulieu and then I made the final arrangements to hand it over after his death.
I am wondering where you obtained the photograph of my father and mother.
I don’t know W. F. E. Greases but of course I remember his father who was with us for many years.
You are not quite right with regard to the formation of Newton, Bennett & Carlisle but that does not matter.
Colwyn Bay, Kathleen B. Jessop
