The Senna years
Photography by Rainer Schlegelmilch
An era in pictures. That has been the theme of the previous three books in the series The Great Challenge in which the images of Rainer Schlegelmilch and the words of Dieter Streve-Mülhens combine to illustrate a period of motor racing history. Dividing the years according to a dominant driver has given us volumes centred on Clark Stewart and Lauda; now with volume four we come to Ayrton Senna>
His was an epoch when passion became yoked to a new professionalism; when the science spiralled to a higher realm; when four world champions competed together on the same track, and when the two finest drivers in the World competed as team-mates — and as bitter rivals.
These striking images taken from the book spin us right back to a time of almost long forgotten competitiveness.
