Works Nissan 300ZX (above) dominates Daytona 24 Hours, winning by 24 laps. Thomas Radstrom wins the Swedish Rally and Formula One testing hots up, with Michael Schumacher’s Benetton B194 and Ayrton Senna’s new Willicuns FWI6 to the fore.

1984

Stig Blomqvist (above) wins the Swedish Rally. Fellow Audi Qrattro drivers Michèle Mouton and Per Eklund are second and third. Porsche’s 962 makes its debut in the Daytona 24 Hours. It retires and a Porsche-powered March 83G wins the race.

1974

Peter Gethin (above) wins the Tasman Series in the Team YDS Formula 5000 Chevron B24. Emerson Fittipaldi completes a Brazilian Fl double with victory in the non-championship race at Brasilia. Tapio Rainio wins the Arctic Rally in a Saab V4.

1954

Mercedes unveils one of the weapons in its grand prix comeback – the WI96 streamliner (above). Maurice Trintignant wins the Buenos Aires Grand Prix for Ferrari after the last-lap retirement of team-mate Mike Hawthorn with conrod failure.
