Hill BRM sells for record sum
The works BRM P261 that Graham Hill used in the 1964 Formula One World Championship sold for a record sum for its type £309,500 at a Brooks’ auction in December.
The P261 was BRM’s first Grand Prix car to run with a full monocoque and stunned the F1 world on its debut when Hill and Richie Ginther stormed to a one-two finish in the first race of the ’64 season at Monaco. By the end of the year Hill would lose the driver’s title to Lotus’ Jim Clark by just a single point. MF
