New Year at Adstock

The VSCC meeting at The Old Thatched Inn at Adstock near Buckingham on New Year’s Day was the largest ever, without doubt. A wide variety of interesting Edwardian, Vintage and Post-Vintage cars and a few vintage motorcycles arrived on a bright frosty morning, and over 180 lunches were served.

The cars included Peter Stevenson and the Jeddere-Fisher’s 30/98 Vauxhalls, Ian and Ros Hall and Jeff and Jill Ody in their Frazer Nashes, Anthony Heal in his Twin-Cam Sunbeam plus Amilcar, G N, 2.3 Alfa Romeo, Lagonda, Stutz, six Bentleys including Charles Teall’s 8-litre saloon to list but some.

Malcolm Elder departed the gathering in his Alvis 12/50 en route for Grenoble and the Snow and Ice Rally. The distance award to Adstock, however, went to M Langley in his 1925 Delage, having driven over from Essex. The oldest vehicle was B Hinson’s 1912 Cadillac. Hickey in the famous 1917 yellow Dodge arrived four-up having motored from Slough in freezing temperatures, and was duly rewarded for his efforts. An excellent day and a splendid start to the vintage motoring scene for 1994. R O
